Magic City’s Andrew Blechman stopped by for a few hours this afternoon for the practice sessions. Spinner and Jairo from Dania were on the court when Andrew arrived and Magic City’s CRB was on the court with them. CRB kept us well with them according to Andrew.

The 2nd Dania group of Goixerri, Minte, Arrieta and Goita were pretty impressive according to Andrew and once Goixerri adjusted his serve to accommodate the Magic City court he looked even better. The Dania crew adjusted well to the court very well and Andrew said he was really impressed with Goixerri. The team of Goixerri-Chasio had participated in a 15-point partido at Dania Thursday evening and beaten the huge 1/9 win favorite team of Erik-Ladutxe which had come down to a 14-14 tie at the end.

Most of the Magic City players practiced on Thursday for the national tourney.

The tournament starts at 10 am EST on Saturday morning and can be seen live on JAC (the Jai-Alai Channel on YouTube). The tourney concludes on Sunday with start time also 10 am that day.

Example: The buy-in for a tournament is $10 + $1. This means that you pay $11 to participate. $10 goes into the prize pot and $1 goes to the poker room.

This system means that the prize pot for a tournament will grow bigger the more buy-ins that are made.

It is quite common for poker rooms to have so called guaranteed tournaments in their tournament schedule. This is tournaments where the poker room or poker network guarantee that a certain amount of money will be in the prize pot.

Example: PokerStars is advertising a $10 + $1 No Limit Texas Hold’em $50,000 GTD. This means that PokerStars is promising that the prize pot will contain at least $50,000. If at least 5,000 buy-ins are made, this money will come from the players. If less than 5,000 buy-ins are made, PokerStars will have to put some of their own money into the prize pot to cover the discrepancy.
